Letter from Superintendent, Elliott Duchon

March 11, 2020

Good Afternoon JUSD Staff, Families and Community:

We are all concerned with the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID19).  As school district employees and members of the community, we recognize that we must take appropriate measures to do our part in controlling and containing this virus.  I know this means most people will experience some inconvenience and a change in routine in the coming weeks.  This is true for all of us who are part of Jurupa Unified School District.  We are taking prudent and appropriate measures immediately to do our part.  I want to thank you in advance, knowing that all of our lives will be disrupted to some extent.  Working together, we will do everything we can to protect our children, our employees and our community at large.

To this end, Jurupa Unified School District will immediately implement the following guidelines for events and/or activities through the month of March.

Canceled Events

  • JUSD Employee of the Year Celebration
  • All rallies
  • All movie nights
  • All large-scale events in excess of 300 people
  • All field trips involving international travel
  • All field trips to an educational institution with an established risk
  • Elementary award ceremonies

Approved Events

  • Performances (all attendees will be required to legibly sign in)
  • Athletic events

Other activities are being closely monitored and may be canceled due to the severity of risk in the area at the time of the event.  These include:

  • Prom
  • Grad Night
  • Promotions
  • Senior Award Night
  • Graduation
  • End-of-Year Recognitions

Information regarding these activities will be forthcoming and a final decision will be made two weeks prior to the event.

We will continue to evaluate upcoming events daily to determine if the event will proceed as planned or if it will be canceled.  Regular updates will be provided on our website at Coronavirus: Latest News.

We recognize the difficult circumstances these decisions place on our students, staff and families. It is necessary for JUSD to be responsible global citizens and do our part to prevent the spread of this contagious disease and to protect all members of the Jurupa community.

Sincerely,
Elliott Duchon
